Location

Nestled in the heart of Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, David Fleay’s is a wildlife park with a difference! You’ll stroll through tranquil surroundings to experience some of Queensland’s most iconic natural habitats and the resident Australian wildlife. Koalas, crocodiles and dingoes are just some of the animals you will see. Spy on endangered southern cassowaries and tree kangaroos in the rainforest and meet wallabies and emus in Wallaby Way. Be entertained by Wally, our playful platypus, at the only platypus display on the Gold Coast and visit his friends in the nocturnal house.

You’ll discover rarely-seen creatures of the night, such as mahogany gliders, greater bilbies and fat tailed dunnarts. Explore the park at your own pace, or join one of the daily ranger-led wildlife presentations, including our iconic Fleay’s In Flight Show. Reconnect with nature through their stories, and be thrilled as animals swoop, jump, slither and glide around you. A range of tailored environmental-education programs are also on offer for school groups. Make a day of it and picnic in the lush grounds or drop into the cafe and enjoy a relaxing Devonshire tea on the deck. If you still have some energy, venture out on the Tallebudgera Creek walking track and discover sun-dappled mangroves, colourful birdlife and creek-side views.

Established in 1951, by David Fleay, today the park is inspired by the memory of the naturalist and his conservation efforts. Ahead of this time, Dr Fleay insisted that the park animals should be kept in as natural a habitat as possible. Today, we are the only Queensland Government owned and operated wildlife park and the natural enclosures you see today reflect his philosophy and the park continues Dr Fleay’s work of research, breeding and education.
